Royal Gorge Bridge
On Saturday, August 23rd, Steven and I went on a day trip to the Royal Gorge Bridge. Looking at the brochure, we thought it would be a fun place to see...We had no idea what a "my life flashed before my eyes" kind of adventure it would turn out to be. As soon as we walked threw the gate there was water big, beautiful fountain with the date and time. I thought it was pretty, so I took a picture of it. Later, I found out that it is one in three water clocks worldwide. It keeps the time and date by the rushing water! I thought was pretty neat. I was pretty excited when I found out what an amazing thing I had captured on film when I just thought it was a pretty fountain. Of course, they make you walk threw the gift shop to get to the attractions, but as soon as you make it threw that you walk out and there it is! The gorge was amazing. Steven got dizzy when he looked over the edge. I guess when he saw Royal Gorge, he was thinking more of a wedge or slightly deep crevice. I will admit, it was a lot bigger and deeper then I expected too. Next, we went on the Aerial Tram. It was sooo high! I thought I would be so scared, but I was to busy trying to make sure we got a good picture, I didn't really pay attention to the height. Good thing too, because Steven did and he said it was HIGH. After that, we walked down passed the petting zoo to where you go to cross the bridge. Now, this was my idea. I wanted to see the bridge. I opted to go to this bridge rather than the Cave of the Winds...I don't know what I was thinking! I don't like bridges! I'm afraid of heights!! So, anyway, we get to the bridge and stood there for a minute. A lady and her husband walk off the bridge just like it was nothing and tell me, "It's not scary at all...Just don't look down and you'll be fine". So, off we go onto the quarter mile(felt like ten miles) bridge that's over 1,000 feet in the air. It's a suspension bridge so it bounced too! Oh, and did I mention there was the option of driving across? I'm sure the H3 Hummer had a blast watching everybody squeal and squirm as it bounced across. Just a few steps onto the bridge, of course, I looked down. I immediately got dizzy and lost my balance when I saw just how high up we were threw the crack. I ended up having to stay on the metal beam beneath the wooden planks...for some reason that made me feel safer. As I was holding out my arms to balance myself on the metal beam(because the bridge itself was only about 12 feet wide!) when I glanced up and saw a little old lady doing the exact same thing! ha She looks at me and says, "I'm right there with ya". Steven kept teasing me the whole way. Only to find out later that he was just as terrified as I was. I think teasing me took a little bit of the edge off or something. Lucky me! Well, we finally made it across the bridge! We were safe! The 80 year old bridge didn't decided to suddenly break as I was crossing it! After we survived the bridge we went on the Incline Railway. That was really cool! It was built in 1931 and is still considered one of the most difficult structures ever built. It goes down 1500 feet at a 45 degree angle to the bottom of the canyon. You get to get out and walk around and take pictures. It was so pretty! Besides the rushing rapids it was peaceful and quiet. It was crazy scary, but definitely worth the experience. I hope you all enjoy the pictures! We have more, but they wouldn't all fit. :0/
